How A-FIDS Improves the Queuing Experience for Your Flight Passengers

How A-FIDS Improves the Queuing Experience for Your Flight Passengers

With passenger expectations high at airports of all sizes all over the world, operators are under pressure to make sure queues stay as short as possible and passengers are processed quickly. Queues at airports are inevitable however and are often frustrated places fully of boredom and anxiety.

Airports have researched queueing to try to understand the human psychology behind some of the frustrations of waiting in line. The airport departures queue is already a pressured environment, where passengers are often concerned about flight times, processing times, whether they have all the right documentation or luggage and many other things. However efficiently the queue is processed, many passengers grow bored and frustrated.

How can the queueing experience be improved?

Research shows that two of the top factors that increase passenger frustration are boredom and a lack of relevant information. interestingly this can lead to passengers overestimating the wait time by up to 36%.

If passengers were kept up-to-date with the most recent flight information, including potential delays or even queue processing time estimations, then research shows that this can reduce some of the potential anxiety associated with the ‘not knowing’.

Other types of information can keep passengers distracted during queueing and then help to direct them away from certain areas afterwards. This can keep congestion to a minimum and increase efficiency significantly. Weather information, tourist and destination information and airport shopping offers or menu items can be ideal to get in front of passengers during this critical point in their journey.
