What influences the effectiveness of a Baggage Reconciliation System?

With passenger numbers rising and mandatory regulatory requirements increasing, airport operators know that seamless efficiency within an airport baggage reconciliation system is critical. The annual cost of baggage claims and flight departure delays can be significantly high, and A-ICE understand that planning and implementation of an effective baggage reconciliation system can realise huge cost savings.

Effective baggage reconciliation happens when the system knows where every piece of checked-in luggage is at all times and can match the correct bag with the right passenger at the time of boarding. The latest mandatory regulation is designed to reduce the number of misdirected bags, and forces airlines to put in place appropriate systems to ensure baggage is seamlessly tracked.

A-BRS uses wireless laser barcode scanners to read printed baggage tags at every point in the baggage journey, including interlining and multi-leg travel. When verification and positive matching occurs to this level, every piece of luggage is visible within the system – right down to its position in the container.

The benefits of A-BRS are extensive, and allows operators to maintain full compliance with mandatory requirements:

  • Matches all bags with boarded passengers
  • Minimizes misdirected baggage and associated rerouting costs
  • Tracks every bag and container
  • Reduces passenger processing time
  • Automates tracking of passenger boarding and baggage loading
  • Reduces wasted gate time having to locate already-loaded bags
